Religion and Language Diffusion
*Religion*
Explain how geographic maps can illustrates religion diffusion in two different ways:
1. Expansion and Relocation: Some religions are based on their natural surroundings. They can worship the rocks and hills around them. When they move to new places their surroundings are changed and they may adapt or change religions. The main religion in some areas could be decided entirely by what natural spaces surround them. It could also affect how they build the building they worship in. If they live in a warm area they might make the building more open.
2. Practices and Belief Systems: People may live in some places purely because of their religion and the access to the things the worship or practice. Like the Native Americans they used the land they lived in and the resources surrounding them to worship. They worshiped the sun and the mountains. They also worship the wind. Geography plays a major role in a lot of religions.
*Language*
Explain of landscapes impact language diffusion in two different ways:
1. Toponym: The landscapes and area surrounding an area can affect what a place is called. The language spoken in that area also plays a role. Like in Mexico the names of their cities are in their native tongue and named after things that are part of their culture. A city could be named after a mountain that surrounds it.
2. Language Multiculturalism: To different cultures can share the same area of land. When they live in the same areas and speak different languages they may have to develop a lingua franca so they can understand each other and work together. An small example would be if you had a roommate that spoke a different language than you you would have to have a lingua franca so you can understand each other and take care of the place you share together.
